QS9000

QS 9000 was developed by a joint effort of the "Big Three" auto makers, General Motors, Chrysler and Ford, and introduced to the industry in 1994. Some heavy truck makers in the U.S. have also adopted it as well. It is essential for suppliers of production parts, materials and services to the automotive industry
The standard is divided into three sections with the first section being ISO9001 with some additional automotive requirements.

The second section is titled "Additional Requirements" and contains system requirements that have been adopted by all three automakers - General Motors, Chrysler and Ford.

The third section is titled the "Customer Specific Section" which contains the system requirements that are unique to each and every automotive or truck manufacturer.


TS16949
The aim of ISO/TS 16949 is the development of a quality management system that provides for continual improvement, emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain.
TS 16949 applies to the design/development, production and, when relevant, installation and servicing of automotive-related products. It will eventually replace QS9000.

The requirements are intended to be applied throughout the supply chain and for the first time vehicle assembly plants will be encouraged to seek ISO/TS 16949 certification.
